Our Brand

Launceston Airport’s location has been used as a place of gathering and transit for millennia.

Centrally located in a fertile valley, surrounded by ranges and rivers, it’s a natural meeting point and transport hub. Many of the tribes of the Palawa people travelled through here for thousands of years, hunting and celebrating, following the seasons and their traditions.

With the arrival of Europeans these plains became known as Glover Country, after the painter John Glover, who captured the natural beauty of the area in his iconic artworks. Highways and railways were built here, connecting Tasmania’s fertile north with its populous south.

And then the airport arrived, cementing this region as the transport and logistics heart of the island.

Today, Launceston Airport is a connector. Located in the heart of Tasmania,we are the state’s natural entry and exit point.

Most of Tasmania’s key destinations are within a 2.5 hour drive from our runway, including Cradle Mountain, Freycinet, The Great Lakes, Stanley, Hobart and the delights of Tasmania’s only UNESCO City of Gastronomy, Launceston.

Along with being convenient for travellers, we’re also the obvious choice for air freight and cargo carriers, due to our prime position within the highways and railways of the Western Junction and our intimate connectivity with Melbourne Airport.

But we’re not just a connector of the physical. Our most vital role is an intangible one: A connector of people. A connector of culture. A connector of stories.

What matters most is how we share, connect and bring those stories to life.

Key to this is our physical space. Where other airports are sterile, functional places dedicated to signage and advertising, we use our walls, floors and other spaces as a gallery displaying Tasmanian art that tells Tasmanian stories.

Along with these high-visibility, high-value spaces, we bring real, human warmth to how we interact with our customers.

Our staff are an integral part of our story as they support everyone who passes through our doors, bringing decency and humanity to every interaction our travellers have within the airport through conversations, advice and help with anything and everything they need.

Supporting all this is another story – that of Launceston’s role as a UNESCO City of  Gastronomy. We help share that achievement by ensuring our airport champions local wine, drinks and food that highlight the world-class quality of our produce. There’s a story behind every meal, after all.

Our Brand Artwork

While Launceston Airport plays an important role as a gateway to Tasmania, our brand is focused on its beautiful location in the heart of Glover country and the resulting historical and ongoing link to the arts.

Our brand artwork by local artist Michael McWilliams is a modern expression of the distinctive Glover Country.

The evocative artwork aims to 'surprise and delight' locals and visitors alike – as a welcome home or a taste of what's to come.
