Construction of a new taxiway which opened in April 2026, was a key investment in the efficiency, safety, and long-term capacity of our airport operations. The new taxiway enhances operational safety by minimising bottlenecks and reducing the potential for ground conflicts.
Upgrades to the airfield Apron areas were also completed to accommodate increased air traffic and larger and heavier aircraft. The freight Apron enables larger and heavier aircraft and greater efficiency for freight handling as Tasmania's exports grow.
Looking ahead, these developments position the airport to accommodate future growth in air traffic and passenger and freight demand.
Airfield lighting is also being upgraded to improve visibility during takeoff, landing, and taxiing, especially in low-light or poor weather conditions.
LED lighting also helps to save on energy and maintenance costs, and these upgrades support our environmental goals by using sustainable materials and reducing energy consumption.
